Why we love This is NOT a Dinosaur!

Updated: Jun 29, 2022

And why you will too...

A very special animal wants to play and though it may look like one, it's definitely NOT a dinosaur. Or perhaps it is, but it's also much much more...

There are so many reasons to love This is NOT a Dinosaur! by Barry Timms and Ged Adamson. Here are just a few:

It's not like any other dinosaur book

Dinosaurs have been extinct for 65 million years and there are probably as many children's books featuring them BUT I can guarantee that you will not have seen one like this before!

It's so much fun and full of surprises

This is NOT a Dinosaur! is incredibly playful and inventive and you don't know what to expect on the next page!

It celebrates the imagination

This perfectly captures the child's view of the world, how a single object or toy can take on multiple functions, and the infinite possibilities that are unlocked by changing perspectives.

There's so much wordplay

The innovative language and all the rhyming strengthen children's literacy skills and make learning fun too.

It encourages creativity

This will prompt little readers to come up with their own 'osaurs' as well as transform everyday items and creatures into something entirely different!

It has gorgeous illustrations

We are huge fans of Ged Adamson's artwork and absolutely love the neon palette and detailed images with their amusing little subplots happening in the background. The builder sliding down the helter skelter always gets a laugh here and the underwater scene is so striking! As a child of the '80s, I love the Ghostbusters-esque vibes of the haunted house too.

And... it's part of a series

We love the first book This is NOT a Unicorn! too (read a review and an interview with Ged Adamson).

We'll be chatting to Barry and Ged about This is NOT a Dinosaur! soon so stay tuned...
